Steel manufacturer and Novaled cooperate with new OLED project

On October 16, 2007, ArcelorMittal, the world's largest high-quality steel manufacturer, and Novaled, an OLED technology and materials supplier, have collaborated on a new OLED project. Since 2006, the two companies have developed a top-emitting OLED based on a flexible substrate. (for signage and lighting).

Flexible OLEDs are characterized by the use of ArcelorMittal's steel sheets. Metal substrates are more robust and durable than standard glass sheets and can be commercialized by a roll-to-roll process. This production method can also be used in subsequent inline processes (for OLED deposition), enabling simultaneous high throughput manufacturing and low single piece production time (Tact time).

In cooperation, Novaled contributed to the efficient and stable OLED device structure related technical experience and material technology tips for doping the transport layer.

ArcelorMittal says it has been looking for new applications that add value to steel products, and they think OLEDs are very promising. Novaled's technology provides an effective top-reversal structure that fits its steel substrate.

Novaled claims that RGB OLEDs can be produced directly on high-quality steel sheets. Significant results show that Novaled's technology turns standard steel foil into a reflective bottom electrode. They are very happy to support ArcelorMittal for OLED development on metal plates.
