Personal profile: After graduating from the Physics Department of Fudan University in 1963, he stayed on to teach and work on gas discharge and light source.
He has studied and studied plasma science and applications at the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford University in the United Kingdom and the Institute of Experimental Physics at the University of Kiel, Germany.
Now he is engaged in teaching and research at the Institute of Electric Light Sources and Department of Lighting Engineering of Fudan University. He is a professor and doctoral tutor. The main research directions are: gas discharge plasma and its application, especially the research and development and application of plasma light source.
He has presided over the completion of vacuum ultraviolet light source and photoionization research (City Science and Technology Commission project), low-pressure Ar-Hg discharge generality study (City Higher Education Bureau project), æ°˜ ion source characteristics research (Engineering Physics Research Institute Extra-funding Fund), T8 fluorescent lamp Research projects such as the Stripe Discharge Study (Philips Lighting Company Project). He has won two awards at the national or provincial (ministerial) level and two awards for outstanding papers. He also participated in the research of compact fluorescent lamps (light industry project) and won the first prize of the Ministry of Education for scientific and technological progress.
Professor Zhu Shaolong mainly teaches courses in gas discharge physics, gas discharge sources and plasma physics. He also presided over the patent for obtaining high-efficiency vacuum ultraviolet light source.
Professor Zhu Shaolong has published more than 40 papers in domestic and foreign magazines, and he has co-authored two books on electric light source theory and electric light source principle. It is the main reference book for electric light source research and technical work in China.
