VIA Releases Quad-Core Processor/DX11 Integrated Graphics Next Year

VIA Releases Quad-Core Processor/DX11 Integrated Graphics Next Year The financial report released today showed that VIA (VIA) had a net loss of 1.44 billion Taiwanese dollars (307 million yuan) in the first half of this year. The loss per share was 1.98 NT, which was almost twice that of NT$ 786 million in the same period of last year.

In the first half of this year, VIA’s total revenue was NT$25.5 billion, gross profit was NT$1.04 billion, gross margin was 40.67%, and operating loss was NT$135 million.

VIA will release the first dual-core Nano processor at the end of this year, and has already received orders from Singapore and the Chinese mainland. VIA expects that the new product will help reduce losses and achieve profitability next year.

The dual-core Nano processor was first publicly exhibited at Taipei's computex 2010 in early June this year. The latest news shows that this processor is manufactured on TSMC 40nm process (display sample is Fujitsu 65nm), clocked up to 2GHz, integrates 2MB L2 cache, DDR2/DDR3 memory controller, supports VIA 1333MHz V4 bus (display sample only supports 800MHz ), the maximum thermal design power consumption of 20W, mainly for the notebook market.

By the end of 2011, VIA will also release its own first quad-core processor (I wonder if it belongs to Nano). At the same time, it will introduce the new chipset "VN11" and integrate a DX11-level graphics core.

The VX11 chipset will be handed over to TSMC as well as the existing VX1000 North Bridge.

Related news, VIA announced plans to merge its optical storage manufacturing subsidiary VIA Optical Solution on September 30.
