China's electricity consumption in the first quarter exceeded RMB 1 trillion

From January to March, China's total electricity consumption amounted to 1091.1 billion kWh, an increase of 12.72% year-on-year. This is the first time China's electricity consumption exceeded the trillion mark in the first quarter.

Lin Weibin, executive deputy director of the China Energy Research Institute’s Energy Policy Research Center, said that from the point of view of growth, the 12.72% growth rate was lower than last year's full average of 14.56%, but considering that the total electricity consumption last year was already at a relatively high level. It can be judged that the electricity demand this year is still relatively strong.

“The increase in household electricity consumption and tertiary industry electricity consumption is higher than the increase in electricity consumption in the entire society. The increase in electricity use in the primary and secondary industries is less than the increase in electricity consumption in the entire society, which indicates that the higher increase in electricity consumption is to a certain extent. It was driven by civilian and commercial use," said Lin Weibin.

Lin Weibin said: “From the power point of view, as of the end of February, the capacity of power plant equipment of 6000 kilowatts and above has increased by 10.2% over the same period of last year, and the current power supply capacity is sufficient. The main factor affecting power supply is still due to the fact that the price of coal is still not Straighten out, there is no effective guarantee for power coal supply."
