Total domestic 3G subscribers reach 110 million

The data released by the three major telecom operators on December 20 showed that under the drive of mid-priced terminal sales, the three major operators increased their 3G subscribers in November. The total number of 3G subscribers has reached 110 million.

Ren Wenjie, the first entrepreneurial securities firm, believes that by the end of the year, operators' 3G subscribers may reach new heights; and as the penetration rate of 3G subscribers increases, business opportunities in the mobile Internet industry will further increase.

Unicom's 3G subscribers increase by 3.38 million

China Unicom (600050) monthly new 3G subscribers exceeded 3 million for the first time in November, and the net increase in subscribers for the sixth consecutive month since June of this year hit a new high. In November, 2G users of China Unicom's mobile business increased by 214,000, a cumulative total of 15.839 million, and a net increase of 3.384 million 3G users, which totaled 3.653 million.

China Unicom has accumulated a net increase of 22,744,000 subscribers of 3G this year, which is only 2.526 million sets away from the 25 million target set by China Unicom's management at the beginning of the year. Judging from the current speed of development, China Unicom has little problem in fulfilling its annual 3G user goals. Taking into account the holiday effect in December, China Unicom’s net addition of 3G subscribers is expected to exceed expectations.

Haitong Securities pointed out that the rapid growth of China Unicom's subscribers has fully demonstrated the scale-expanding effect of the 3G subscribers of the thousand yuan smartphone. China Unicom has sold 8 million thousand smartphones in the fourth quarter, and it is expected that the sales volume of 1,000 yuan smartphones will reach 11 million throughout the year.

According to China Unicom’s recently announced 2012 key terminal strategy, the company will make efforts for products with price ranging from 1,000 yuan to 2,000 yuan. On the 20th, China Unicom and Xiaomi signed a contract to formally launch Unicom’s star strategy terminal, the Xiaomi Mobile Unicom contract machine. It is reported that China Unicom and Xiaomi signed a supply framework for over one million units throughout the year.

China Mobile has 640 million subscribers

The Other two telecom operators, China Telecom (0728.HK) and China Mobile (0941.HK), also have more than 30 million cumulative 3G subscribers.

In November, China Telecom’s mobile subscribers increased by 3.1 million, a slight slowdown from 3.34 million in October. The total number of mobile subscribers increased to 123 million, of which, the net increase in 3G subscribers was 2.16 million, 2.76 million more than in October. Decrease by 21.7%. In the first 11 months, China Telecom’s cumulative 3G subscribers increased by 21.06 million. As of the end of November, the total number of 3G subscribers reached 33.35 million.

China Mobile’s net increase of customers in November was 5.43 million, while its net increase in October was 5.372 million. China Mobile has accumulated a net increase of 60.302 million customers this year, and the total number of users has increased to 640 million. Among them, the net increase in 3G subscribers in November was 2.679 million, up from 2.167 million in October. At present, the total number of 3G users has increased to 48.007 million.

China Mobile recently held a global developer conference to announce its strategic layout of the mobile Internet. This means that telecom operators began to actively deploy the mobile Internet market after the scale of 3G users.
