Digital Lumens, established in 2008, is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with approximately 65 employees. In the last fiscal year, they reported sales in the tens of millions of dollars. Their software platform supports a variety of applications, such as intelligent lighting control, energy management, security systems, and monitoring air quality and other environmental metrics. This cloud-based platform is designed to work seamlessly with components and hardware from other manufacturers. With over 2,500 installations, Digital Lumens has built a robust customer base for industrial IoT solutions.
"The acquisition of Digital Lumens will allow OSRAM to offer cutting-edge digital solutions for equipment management and IoT applications," said Osram Chief Technology Officer Stefan Kampmann. "By merging software and sensors into one unified platform, businesses can gain deeper insights into their built environments and optimize space usage. As a company deeply rooted in understanding spatial dynamics, OSRAM is exploring innovative business models beyond traditional lighting. Additionally, the platform is compatible with lighting products from other manufacturers."
Tom Pincince, President and CEO of Digital Lumens, expressed his excitement about joining forces with OSRAM. "We're thrilled to collaborate with OSRAM's technical experts to foster further growth and introduce novel customer applications. Our current and prospective clients may expect to witness more groundbreaking developments in the future, which will assist them in adding value to their operations."
OSRAM intends to incorporate its existing digital services into this platform, including Einstone, a navigation and positioning solution. When individuals find themselves in a retail environment, Einstone uses Bluetooth to send targeted product information to their smartphones. During a pilot project, this initiative led to substantial sales growth and was awarded the top prize for the best in-store solution at Euroshop 2017.
Based on its current product and service offerings, OSRAM is positioning itself as a leading platform-based industrial IoT application provider, offering tailored solutions for optimizing building processes.
This strategic move underscores Osram's commitment to advancing technology and innovation within the realm of connected lighting and beyond.
