Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has revealed that its subsidiary, Elta Systems, Inc., has developed an innovative, compact mobile sensor system capable of rapidly intercepting and identifying high-frequency radio communication signals. This advanced technology not only detects but also precisely locates the source of these signals, making it highly effective for both land and maritime environments.
High-frequency radios are known for their ability to communicate over long distances at a low cost, without being affected by traditional mobile networks. As a result, they are widely used in military, paramilitary, and civilian operations. Unfortunately, these same technologies are also exploited by groups such as terrorists, illegal immigrants, pirates, and unlicensed fishermen, making detection and monitoring increasingly important.
The new system from Elta Systems represents a significant advancement over existing solutions, which often require large, cumbersome antennas stretching hundreds of meters. In contrast, the new equipment is based on the ELK-7065 3D high-frequency communication positioner, featuring a compact antenna with just a 1.2-meter diameter. This makes it ideal for fixed ground-based monitoring and mobile sea-based applications.
