Tesla Model 3 capacity bottleneck was confirmed, the culprit is it

Tesla's Model 3 has faced significant delivery delays, a problem that has become widely known. The official Tesla statement mentioned a "capacity bottleneck," but the exact reasons were not disclosed at first. Later, it was confirmed that the main issue stemmed from the battery production. Kazuhiro Tsuga, CEO of Panasonic, finally revealed the real cause behind Tesla's failure to meet its Model 3 production targets in Q3. According to reports, Jin Heyi, a representative from Panasonic, stated that the delay in the Tesla Super Battery Factory's production line significantly impacted the overall capacity of the Model 3. Some components of the current Model 3 batteries still require manual assembly by workers, which slows down the process. Panasonic is a key partner for Tesla, assisting in the production and assembly of battery components at the Nevada Gigafactory located in Sparks. Jin Heyi mentioned that the battery production issues would be resolved quickly, leading to a sharp increase in Model 3 output. However, he did not provide specific details on the current production progress. Tesla is set to release its latest quarterly earnings report this week, but the company representative has not yet commented on the situation. In August, Elon Musk had announced that Tesla aimed to produce 1,500 Model 3s in September, with a target of reaching 20,000 units per month by December. Unfortunately, the actual number produced in Q3 was only 260 units. Initially, Tesla only mentioned a general "capacity bottleneck" without explaining the specifics. Now, with confirmation from Panasonic, it's clear that the main cause of the limited production was the challenges at the Super Battery Factory. The Model 3 is Tesla’s entry-level electric vehicle, priced starting at $35,000. As of August, over 455,000 pre-orders had been placed, and many customers are facing long wait times—some exceeding a year—before they can take delivery of their vehicles. This highlights the pressure on Tesla to resolve production bottlenecks and meet demand.
