According to James Consulting, Apple is working with LG Display to develop a foldable iPhone. Although LG's OLED accumulation is not as good as Samsung's (currently the only OLED screen supplier), Apple may not continue to cooperate with rival Samsung for fear of technology leakage. LG Display recently created a team to develop a foldable OLED screen for the iPhone, and its component manufacturing sister company LG Innotek has also set up a team dedicated to the development of rigid flexible printed circuit boards (RFPCBs). Industry insiders pointed out that the foldable OLED panel may be put into production from 2020, which means that Apple may delay the release of new mobile phones. In contrast, Samsung's first foldable mobile phone may be unveiled next year.

LG recently started production of its first mobile OLED screens at its E5 plant in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The first products will be shipped to LG Electronics and some mobile phone manufacturers in China, and the production of the iPhone OLED screen is expected to begin as early as 2019, when the new factory called E6 in Paju, Gyeonggi-do is completed. Apple is considering investing in the E6 factory to promote LG's production of OLED screens. According to the news, the two companies have reached an agreement on investment for the time being, but the details have not yet been finalized.
