MAX3795 multi-rate VCSEL driver, 1Gbps to 4.25Gbps, with diagnostic monitor
Overview
The MAX3795 is a high-speed VCSEL driver for small form factor (SFF) and small form factor pluggable (SFP) fiber optic transmitters. It has a bias generator, laser modulator and comprehensive safety features. When temperature and laser characteristics change, automatic power control (APC) adjusts the laser bias current to maintain a constant average optical power. The driver supports common cathode and differential configuration structures.
The speed of the MAX3795 can be as high as 4.25Gbps, and it can give a laser modulation current of 15mA and a bias current of 15mA. Adjustable temperature compensation is provided so that the extinction ratio meets the requirements in the entire operating temperature range. The interface between MAX3795 and Dallas DS1856 / DS1859 can meet the timing and diagnostic requirements of SFF-8472. The MAX3795 supports different VCSEL packages, including low-cost TO-46 headers.
The MAX3795 safety circuit detects failures that may cause dangerous light intensity and disables VCSEL output. The safety circuit conforms to the SFF and SFP multi-source agreement (MSA).
The MAX3795 is available in a compact 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin thin QFN package and operates over a temperature range of -40 ° C to + 85 ° C. The MAX3795 is pin compatible with the MAX3740A and is available in a lead-free package.
