With the integration of AI and big data, the color TV industry is gradually moving into a post-intelligent era. However, whether AI will fully replace smart TVs remains uncertain. Two key factors are at play: first, the market has seen a sharp decline, and second, the replacement cycle for televisions is long—typically between 6 to 8 years. As a result, it's still too early to claim that AI will drive the next wave of growth in the color TV market.
The rise and fall of LeTV Super TV seems to reflect the broader trends within the intelligent TV industry. In this new era, it’s unclear if AI will take over the role of smart technology or spark a new round of profitability in the television sector.

Since 2012, LeTV's low-price and high-distribution strategy accelerated the shift toward smart TVs, triggering a wave of replacements and gradually replacing traditional TVs in homes. According to Aowei data, the domestic color TV retail volume reached 42.628 million units in 2012. Over the next four years, the numbers continued to grow, with sales reaching 47.81 million in 2013, 44.61 million in 2014, 46.74 million in 2015, and 50.89 million in 2016.
However, as this round of smart TV replacements comes to an end, the domestic color TV market has returned to pre-2012 levels. Data from Aoweiyun.com shows that in the first half of 2017, retail sales fell to 21.81 million units—a year-on-year drop of 7.3%. The third quarter of 2017 was the worst in history, with only 10.41 million units sold, a 12.9% decline compared to the previous year.
One major reason for this downturn is market saturation. Smart TVs have already captured much of the demand over the past few years, and since TV replacement cycles are typically long, many consumers are not yet ready to upgrade. Additionally, product upgrades in both hardware and services have failed to significantly boost user demand.
Currently, color TVs can be divided into two main categories: hardware and services. While hardware improvements focus on image and sound quality, such iterations often take time. OLED and QLED technologies are being promoted, but their high prices limit their appeal. For most users, 4K LCD TVs are sufficient for daily use, making expensive upgrades less attractive.
On the service side, content and application innovations are key. Smart TVs have already integrated content services, though challenges remain in consolidating high-quality content scattered among major companies.
In terms of application innovation, AI is gaining attention. Voice interaction and intelligent recommendations are currently the main AI features in TVs. While voice control is more convenient than using a remote, issues like accuracy and the need to activate the voice command remain unresolved.
Although AI-powered TVs haven’t yet become a mainstream trend like smart TVs, the direction of development is promising. Major manufacturers, whether internet-based or traditional, are investing heavily in AI. At the recent CES, Changhong showcased its latest CHiQ AI TV model, the Q5K, featuring improved voice interaction methods.

Micro-Whale TV, an internet-based brand, has always focused on user-friendly interactions. It introduced voice control early on, allowing users to easily find content based on their preferences. Beyond entertainment, Micro-Whale TV has evolved into a helpful tool for daily life, offering rich content and improving overall usage.
Thanks to AI and big data, Micro-Whale has achieved personalized content recommendations tailored to each user. It has also made significant progress in semantic recognition, quickly understanding natural language and matching relevant content through big data analysis.
Looking ahead, Micro-Whale plans to introduce a "distance speaking" feature. Users can simply say “Hello Micro-Whale†to activate the TV without pressing the voice button on the remote. This marks a step closer to true human-computer dialogue.

Newer products are now emerging, including projection models from Micro-Whale. These devices no longer require wake-up words—users can simply ask, “What do I want to watch?†or “Open this app,†and the TV will respond directly, elevating the level of interaction.
For the color TV industry, intelligence is an inevitable trend, and the next phase will likely be driven by AI. However, the timing of this transformation depends largely on technological advancements and real-world applications. In the AI era, human-TV interaction will serve as the foundation, but it won't be the only factor. When TVs can seamlessly connect with all home devices and offer advanced human-computer interaction, we may finally witness the arrival of a new era in television.
