Motorola will preload Bing search on Android phones
According to Taiwan media reports, Motorola, the leading US mobile phone manufacturer, announced on Thursday (3/11) that it has formed an alliance with Microsoft to provide consumers with a choice of Microsoft ’s Bing search and map functions on Android phones built by the company. All new mobile phones released in the Chinese market in the first quarter will be preloaded with Bing services.
Motorola said that through its alliance with Microsoft, browsers on Android phones will be preloaded with Bing bookmarks and search tool functions to increase consumer choice.
After Google released the Android mobile platform, Motorola announced that it will focus on mobile phone development on the Android platform in order to buck the market downturn. However, Android is an open platform, so mobile phone manufacturers have the right to customize Android functions.
In fact, this is not the first time Motorola has adopted a third-party search engine on the Android platform. On January 21 this year, Motorola announced its cooperation with Baidu, China ’s largest search engine, to allow users to choose Baidu ’s various services, including Baidu. Search, email and map etc. At that time, the media analyzed that China was a market that Motorola tried to open up. In addition, Google's absence in the Chinese market was unclear. In order to reduce the risk of this market, it had to take expedient measures.
Regardless of the cooperation with Baidu or Microsoft, only Android phones sold by Motorola in the Chinese market appear at this stage. Although Motorola and Microsoft signed a global cooperation agreement, Motorola did not mention whether to extend this program to other markets.
