TSY-13 Geosynthetics Drawing Instrument
The TSY-13 geosynthetics drawing instrument is designed to measure the frictional resistance between geosynthetic materials and surrounding soils, as well as their pulling resistance characteristics. This equipment is suitable for various soil types, including different soil conditions and a wide range of geotextiles, geomembranes, geogrids, and geotechnical belts.
**Standards Compliant:**
ISO 12957.1, GB/T 17635.1, ASTM D5321, JTGE50 T1129, SL/T 235-2012
**Key Features:**
1. Utilizes a stepper motor for precise shear rate control.
2. Easy-to-use normal pressure application system.
3. Large LCD screen with Chinese display for user-friendly operation.
4. Can be connected to a computer for automated control and report generation.
**Technical Parameters:**
1. Pulling box inner dimensions: 290 × 290 × 290 mm
2. Force accuracy error: ≤ ±0.3%
3. Force range: 0 to 10 kN
4. Normal pressure range: 0–200 kPa
5. Horizontal drawing speed: 0.5 mm/min
6. Horizontal pull displacement: 0–30 mm
7. Displacement accuracy error: ≤ ±0.3%
8. Power supply: 220V, 50Hz
**Testing Procedure:**
1. Cut the specimen according to specifications, ensuring its width is slightly smaller than the test chamber.
2. Conduct at least three samples per test group.
3. Reinforce the ends of the sample inside the test chamber to prevent deformation during testing.
4. Carefully fill the lower half of the test box with soil, matching the design density and condition.
5. Place the specimen on the soil surface, align it symmetrically, and cover it with a thin layer of soil to secure it.
6. Fill the upper half of the box with soil as per the design requirements.
7. Secure the specimen end in the tension clamp and center it properly.
8. Install the top cover and dial indicator, apply the normal pressure, and allow time for consolidation.
9. Adjust the horizontal loading device, set the parameters on the LCD, and start the test. Use the arrow keys to position the fixture accurately.
10. Begin the test when the tension clamp starts applying force. Record displacement and horizontal pull, maintaining a consistent drawing speed (e.g., 0.5 mm/min for sandy soils).
11. Continue pulling until the peak force stabilizes, then stop the test.
12. Repeat the process with new specimens and different normal pressures to complete all required tests.
**Calculations:**
To calculate the interface pull friction strength:
$$ \tau_p = \frac{T_p}{L \times B} $$
Where:
- $ \tau_p $: Pull friction strength, kPa
- $ T_p $: Measured peak horizontal total pull, kN
- $ L $, $ B $: Length and width of the specimen embedded in the soil, m
**17.5.2** Calculate the drawing friction strength under each level of normal pressure and plot the $ \tau_p $ vs. $ p $ curve.
**17.5.3** Determine the drawing friction coefficient $ f $ between soil and geosynthetic materials using the formula:
$$ f = \frac{\tau_p}{p} $$
Where:
- $ p $: Normal pressure, kPa
- $ \tau_p $: Corresponding drawing friction strength, kPa
This comprehensive testing method ensures accurate evaluation of the interaction between geosynthetic materials and soil, supporting reliable engineering decisions. The TSY-13 instrument provides a robust and precise solution for geotechnical testing applications.
