Straight shear friction test method and pull-out friction test method


Straight Shear Friction Test Method

1. Place the sample flat on a rigid horizontal base located in the lower part of the shear box, with the front end clamped within the shear zone. If adhesive is used, apply it between the sample and the base (for unbonded samples, an alumina standard friction base can be used). After bonding, ensure the specimen is flat, without folds or wrinkles. No relative slippage between the sample and the base is allowed during the test.

2. Install the shear box: fill the upper shear box with pre-standard quality sand, with a thickness of 50mm. Ensure the sand is uniformly distributed and compacted to a dry density of 1750kg/m³.

3. Install the horizontal loading device and apply a normal pressure of 50kPa (use a benchmark weight of 50kPa, and add 3 additional standard weights, each increasing the pressure by 50kPa).

4. Apply a horizontal load so that the rate of movement between the upper and lower shear boxes is 1mm/min ± 0.2mm/min. Measure the corresponding shear force T and relative displacement ΔL continuously or at intervals of 12 seconds. The test continues until the cut surface reaches 16.5% of its length, at which point the test ends.

5. Steps for operation:

1) Turn on the power switch.

2) Enter the password "600" to access the system.

3) Select the desired test speed and press Enter. The screen will display “shear force”, “shear stress”, “peak”, and “displacement”.

4) Press the start button to begin the test. The system applies incremental stress starting with a normal stress of 50kPa. Once valid results are obtained, it automatically proceeds to 100kPa, 150kPa, and 200kPa.

5) When the displacement starts and the total contact area reaches 16.5%, the machine stops automatically and displays the test data. Confirm the result if correct.

6) Open the result query to view the test outcomes.

7) Press OK to print the report. The printer will automatically generate the test result report.

Pulling Friction Test Method

1. Cut the specimen according to specifications. The width should be slightly smaller than the test chamber, and the length must be sufficient to prevent breakage.

2. Each test group should include no fewer than 3 samples.

3. Reinforce the ends of the sample before placing it in the test chamber to prevent excessive deformation during testing.

4. Fill the lower part of the test box with soil according to design requirements, ensuring the height is level with the seam and the surface is smooth.

5. Place the sample on the soil surface, aligning it symmetrically from both sides. Gently cover the sample with a thin layer of soil to position it properly.

6. Fill the upper half of the box with soil based on the required density and condition.

7. Secure the sample’s end in the tension clamp, ensuring even clamping at the center.

8. Place the top cover and apply the normal pressure. Allow time for consolidation as per the relevant test procedure.

9. Adjust the horizontal loading device and set up the test parameters. Use the up/down arrows to position the fixture correctly. Start the test when the tension clamp begins to apply force. Press the start button to record displacement and horizontal pull. The pulling rate should be around 5mm/min for sandy soils.

10. Continue pulling after reaching the peak pull-out force until the force stabilizes, then stop the test.

11. Replace the sample and apply a new normal pressure. Repeat the process to complete all tests.
